As you continue to explore new possibilities available to you in 2017, I’d like you to consider three activities guaranteed to accelerate your growth this year. They are meditation, travel, and coaching.
Include them as part of your personal development plan, and you might not recognize yourself by the end of this year!
Let’s explore each one in more detail.
If you want to change the way you react to people in daily life’s situations, meditation is one of the most practical and effective ways to accomplish this. Each time you meditate, you open up a space between how you feel about something and what you want to do about hose feelings.
When you breathe into your heart rhythmically, evenly and deeply, you increase what Harvard psychologist Dr. Susan David refers to as Emotional Agility, or the ability to consciously choose how you want to respond when negative emotions are viciously triggered.
Emotional Agility helps you deal with common problems such as negative self-image, heartbreak, pain, anxiety, depression, confusion, procrastination, difficult transitions, etc. You feel as if time has slowed down and you have more space to respond from a more objective and loving space.
In Dr. David’s words, “Emotionally agile people are dynamic. They demonstrate flexibility in dealing with our fast-changing, complex world. They are able to tolerate high levels of stress and to endure setbacks, while remaining engaged, open, and receptive.”
Changing the way you respond to life’s daily situations, will allow you to build deeper and more meaningful relationships this year. It will also allow you feel happier, more creative, and inspired throughout this year.
So, how about committing or recommitting to a daily heart-centered meditation practice? Even if it’s only five minutes. Here’s a simple practice to help you get started.
It turns out that Mark Twain was right when he said, “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” Travel is an activity that’s guaranteed to change your life for the better as it will broaden your perception of the world. And when you change the way you see the world, your world changes.
I’m not necessarily talking about taking a vacation where you recharge your batteries at a Caribbean beach resort. Rather, what you want to do is immerse yourself in cultures that are very different from yours, embracing the discomfort of leaving your habitual places, relationships, and patterns.
Travel challenges your views of what you think is “normal,” and opens you to new opportunities and discoveries about yourself, others, and the world around you. Research reveals that extended travel enhances your personality in positive ways, much like personal projects allow for change and even expansion.
For me, it was traveling to South Africa that my life completely changed and I ended up becoming a Heart Intelligence Coach. So who knows where life will take you once you get on your next airplane! You might even meet your soulmate!
So how about getting out of your comfort zone in 2017 by checking out these travel resolutions and how to make them happen?
When it comes to personal development, I know of no other activity that will accelerate your progress more than coaching. Having a coach will help you get out of your own way, identify blind spots, and keep you accountable and committed to the changes you want to make.
Coaches hold a space where you can safely explore what it is you truly want and long for. They will also help you discover the fastest and most effective way to get there. Having an extra set of eyes, brain, and heart to bounce ideas of, will help you identify opportunities that are right in front of you but you cannot see.
As part of your support team, a coach will tell you what you don’t want to hear and challenge you to do what you’re most afraid of doing. They’ll be there to remind you how powerful and amazing you are when you forget and point you in the direction of what’s most important and meaningful to you.
Having a coach will give you a competitive advantage. You’ll learn new leadership skills and transform into a powerful, conscious leader. After you work with a coach for a while, chances are you will adopt their questioning techniques, and use them to coach others.

The Treasure Inside the Cave
Now that you know about these three proven ways to accelerate your growth, let me ask you…
What if Joseph Campbell was right when he said that, “the cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek”?
What if meditation, travel, and coaching are that cave? And your fear what’s keeping you from starting a meditation practice, taking that extended trip or hiring a coach?
Could you love yourself enough to embrace the fear, but take action anyway?
I hope you’re having a fantastic week! As usual, please feel free to leave me your comments or insights below.
From my heart to yours.
