Sometimes, a quote comes along that hits you straight in the middle of your heart. This was the case with Courtney A. Walsh‘s ‘Dear Human’, the reason why we humans got it all wrong when it comes to practicing unconditional love.
Let Courtney’s words remind you of what deep inside your heart, you might already know…
You’ve got it allllll wrong. You didn’t come here to master unconditional love. That is where you came from and where you’ll return. You came here to learn personal love. Universal love. Messy love. Sweaty love. Crazy love. Broken love. Whole love. Infused with divinity. Lived through the grace of stumbling. Demonstrated through the beauty of… messing up. Often. You didn’t come here to be perfect. You already are. You came here to be gorgeously human. Flawed and fabulous. And then to rise again into remembering. But unconditional love? Stop telling that story. Love, in truth, doesn’t need ANY other adjectives. It doesn’t require modifiers. It doesn’t require the condition of perfection. It only asks that you show up. And do your best. That you stay present and feel fully. That you shine and fly and laugh and cry and hurt and heal and fall and get back up and play and work and live and die as YOU. It’s enough. It’s Plenty.
There’s spiritual love, and there’s human love. Spiritual love is unconditionally limitless. Human love will always be bound by our need to belong, to be loved, seen, heard and appreciated. That’s what makes it personal, and therefore human.
The challenge is to infuse our human love with the essence of this Divine, Spiritual Love. It’s like the Olive Oil infused with Parmesan Cheese they sell at Food Lover’s Market. It has a lovely Parmesan aftertaste, but let’s not forget it is NOT Parmesan Cheese. The oil just carries the essence.
I believe what when Jesus said, ‘Love thy neighbor’, what he truly meant was, ‘offer thy neighbor the essence of my Father’s love.’ This doesn’t mean you have to be their friends, hang out with them, date or marry them. It’s about offering the essence of this Divine love, Grace or Acceptance through and by means of your own connection with your heart.
Ken Wilber says, “the heart connects everything, by integrating the denser part of our earthly experience with the refined qualities of heaven and spiritual illumination.” I agree.
Being heart intelligent is the key to infusing our everyday actions, with this higher form of love, making the imperfect perfect, ultimately allowing you to become the gorgeous human being you came here to be.
