On the New York Times Best Seller list since 2009, Gary Chapman’s book, “The Five Love Languages” did a great job at reminding us all that love, unless fully expressed, is just a concept.
“Don’t tell me you love me, SHOW ME you love me”, my sister often tells her husband, giving me a good indication that to her, love is an active verb requiring action and commitment. I agree with my sibling.
But I also believe that expressing your love through gifts, quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service, or physical touch, without coming from an inner state of lovingness, is ultimately meaningless.
How many times have you bought someone a gift just so you wouldn’t arrive at their birthday party empty-handed?
How many times have you answered, “I love you too”, when you didn’t feel it, just so the other person wouldn’t experience that awkward silence?
How many times have you betrayed yourself and did something against your highest interest, just to be loved and liked by someone?
I have. Frankly, I still do sometimes.
The inner state of lovingness I’m referring to here is your PRESENCE. Presence is what and who you are being the moment you decide to be present, real, connected and heart directed.
Being present makes you powerful and even magnetic. HeartMath’s research suggests that when an individual is in a state of Heart Coherence, their heart radiates coherent electro-magnetic waves that are unique to you. They call this your heart signature.
Further research also suggests that being exposed repeatedly to these coherent heart waves can affect your electro-magnetic field and even change the molecular structure of our DNA, resulting in physical, mental and emotional healing.
So, perhaps Alejandro Jodorowsky is right when he says that the only thing you can truly give another being is the sound of your beating heart.
Your PRESENCE, when lovingly shared through gifts, quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service, or physical touch can not only heal others, but ultimately heal yourself.
Who are you sharing your heart beat with?
