Underneath the title of my weekly newsletter there’s a tagline that reads, LOVE. CREATE. TRANSFORM. I chose these three words because they express my top values in life: love, creativity, and spiritual transformation or growth.
These words are my big ‘Why’, or the big reason why I do what I do. They can be summed up in the following phrase I once wrote in my journal:
“The greatest endeavor in life is to create something from a place of love, and in the process transform the world.”
To me, this is the essence of what Heart Intelligence is ultimately all about. They are also a quick way to remind myself that, when I’m feeling stuck and frustrated because something isn’t flowing, it is because I’ve moved into creation skipping the love part.
So, what do I do? I find a way to get back into my heart by asking myself, “What is it that I’m really wanting by sending this email, writing this article, meeting with this person, seeing this client? Why am I doing this?” I then take a few moments to listen. The answer I get always starts with, “Because I’d love to… have, experience, give, ask, receive, share, etc.”
This simple process helps bring me back into the present moment and connects me with my big ‘Why’ or the ‘Goal’ behind the goal. I personally prefer to call it the Heart of your goal.
Let me give you a specific example how I do this. Before I start writing my weekly article and newsletter, at the top of the page I write, ‘My Big Why’. For today’s newsletter, this is what I wrote:
- To connect and keep in touch with my subscribers
- To give great value by sharing a story/article/tip that will inspire and uplift them, and
- To let them know what I’m up to in case they want to join me on one of my upcoming transformational training programs so they can experience exponential growth.
To me, this is what it means to live and act intentionally and purposefully. And I believe that this is SO important because, as Simon Sinek reminds us, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”
You see, your ‘Why’ is what connects your project, vision or idea to your heart and therefore to the hearts of others. And most purchase decisions are emotionally based decisions, later justified by the rational mind. We buy things and invest in people and projects based on how we think that will make us feel. It is always an emotional experience that we seek. And emotions, well, that’s the realm of the heart.
So the technique is quite simple. Before you do pick up the phone, send that email, write that article, meet that friend, take a few moments to breath into your heart and ask yourself, “What’s my big ‘Why’? What is it I’m truly wanting by doing this?” Then get quiet and listen.
The answer you get will almost always, will bring you back into a state of love, and from that place you can start creating something that will transform you, and maybe even the world.
As always, remember to keep your eyes on your Path.
